DePaul Plays at Lakefront Classic

CHICAGO - Blue Demons play Lafayette on Friday before taking on host Northwestern on Sunday. Both matches are part of the Lakefront Classic and will be played at the Thomas Sports Complex in Evanston.

CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s soccer team aims to get back to their winning ways this weekend at the Lakefront Classic in Evanston. Head coach Craig Blazer and the Blue Demons take on Lafayette on Friday before playing host Northwestern on Sunday. DePaul opened the season on the same field with a pair of games in the North Shore Classic.

Noting the Blue Demons

Luke Rojo has the only DePaul goal this season… the Blue Demons have outshot their opponents, 43-38, but have been outscored, 7-1… they also have 24 corner kicks compared to just eight combined for the opponents… Friday and Sunday will be the third and fourth games of the season for DePaul on Northwestern’s field… the Blue Demons are 1-1-0 in the previous two matches in Evanston… head coach Craig Blazer is in his third season with the Blue Demons.

Scouting the Weekend Opponents

Lafayette College – The Leopards stand at 3-0-1 heading into Friday’s match… senior Jamie Mullarkey lead the club with nine points on four goals and an assist… they have defeated Robert Morris (2-1), Hartford (2-1, 2OT) and Rider (2-1) while playing to a scoreless tie with UMBC… head coach Dennis Bohn is in his second season at Lafayette… Lafayette College is located in Easton, Pa.

Northwestern University – The host Northwestern Wildcats take on Eastern Illinois on Friday… they enter the weekend at 0-2-2… the Wildcats have opened the season with a pair of ties against Vanderbilt and Evansville in the North Shore Classic… they have dropped their last two games at the College of Charleston (5-2) and against South Carolina (3-1)… Eric Brin leads the team with two goals while four other have scored once… head coach Tim Lenahan is in his second season in Evanston.

What Lies Ahead

Following the two-day tournament in Evanston, the Blue Demons take on neighborhood foe Loyola at 7 p.m. on Sept. 23 at the Loyola Soccer Park. The next home match is set for Sept. 27 when the club hosts the neighbors to the south, Illinois-Chicago.

The match with the Flames is the first of four straight home matches at Wish Field. DePaul hosts Northern Illinois on Oct. 1 and Conference USA members Louisville on Oct. 4 and Saint Louis on Oct. 8.
