Blue Demons Fall in Overtime
Boxscore EVANSTON, Ill. – Playing in their third overtime match in the last four games, the men’s soccer team came up on the short end of a 2-1 decision against Northwestern at the Best Western Lakeside Classic. John Partyka and John Kornfeld were named to the All-Tournament team. Following a scoreless first half, Northwestern’s Gerardo Alvarez found the net on a penalty kick at 51:31. Partyka came through for DePaul and tied the match in the 79th minute. Kevin Riemer set up the match-tying goal with a cross from the left side to set up Partyka at 78:04. With a scoreless 10-minute first overtime, the two teams went into the second and final period. Just a minute into the final overtime session, Eric Brin found Will Nicholas on a free kick and Nicholas headed it in at 101:01 for the victory. With the loss, the Blue Demons drop to 1-3-1 while Northwestern improves to 4-1-0. Northwestern claims the tournament title by UC Irvine and the Blue Demons. DePaul travels to UIC for a match on Wednesday afternoon.
