DePaul to Battle Buckeyes on Friday Night
Sept. 13, 2012
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Coming of a mid-week, 2-1 win over cross-town Loyola, the DePaul men’s soccer team hits the road to take on Big Ten foe Ohio State on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in Columbus.
The Blue Demons (2-3-0) hope to bring the momentum they gained on Tuesday into Friday’s match. On Tuesday, Loyola struck first with a penalty kick goal in the opening frame, senior Antonio Aguilar answered with a penalty kick conversion of his own in the second.
With the score knotted at one, it was Brian Schultz who notched the game-winner in the waning minutes of regulation. With sophomore David Selvaggi taking the corner kick, freshman Jalen Harvey headed the service into the front of the box before Schultz buried it in the back of the net to seal the win for the Blue Demons.
The Buckeyes (2-3-1) are also coming off a win, a 2-1 defeat of San Diego State last Sunday. One of Ohio State’s three losses can be attributed to Chicago’s UIC, a team the Blue Demons defeated, 2-1, to open the 2012 campaign.
The Blue Demons and Buckeyes have only faced off once in program history. In that match in 1988, Ohio State came away with the win.
