Vroom Honored as Soccer America's Player of the Week
CHICAGO - The accolades continue to roll in for DePaul soccer star Steffen Vroom as the senior forward was named Soccer America Player of the Week on Tuesday. This follows up Monday's announcement that Vroom was chosen as BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week . Vroom received his first Player of the Week award from Soccer America and was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week for the third time after scoring the first DePaul goal in three straight matches last week. DePaul's leader in points with seven and goals with three, Vroom led the way in a 2-1 victory over Northwestern on Sept. 7 in Evanston when the Wildcats were ranked No. 9 in the nation. Last Friday in the opener of the Marquette Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis., DePaul trailed 2-0 at halftime when Vroom's goal early in the second half ignited a 3-2 comeback victory over UC-Irvine, which was ranked No. 8 in the country. As if that wasn't enough, Vroom knocked in the first goal and added an assist on Alex Mangan's goal in the Blue Demons' impressive 5-1 victory over Buffalo on Sunday at Wish Field to capture the tournament title. On Sunday evening, Vroom was honored as the Most Valuable Player of the Marquette Invitational. The Blue Demons scored 10 goals last week, and they had 13 goals all last season His three goals this season leave him just one shy of the team-leading total he had last year. Vroom was selected on the Preseason All-BIG EAST team.
