Georgetown Holds Off DePaul



WASHINGTON, D.C. Seth C’deBaca’s goal just over three minutes into the game ended up as the game-deciding goal as Georgetown defeated DePaul, 1-0, in a BIG EAST soccer match on Sunday. With the loss, the Blue Demons conclude the weekend league road trip with a split following Friday’s 1-0 victory at Seton Hall.

The two teams combined for 29 shots in the game with C’deBaca score serving as the only successful shot. C’deBaca found the net on a shot form the top of the box at 3:13 for his second goal of the season.

DePaul (2-3-2, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) totaled 15 shots in the match with a 9-8 advantage in the second half. Both team took six shots in the first period. Georgetown (6-2-0, 1-2-0 BIG EAST), ranked No. 22 in this week’s NSCAA/adidas top 25, racked up 10 corner kicks while each goalkeeper was credited with five saves.

“We played well against a quality side,” said DePaul head coach Craig Blazer. “Playing on the road in the BIG EAST is always tough, but we did well in a lot of areas that we are working on.”

The Blue Demons return to Wish Field next weekend for a pair of BIG EAST games against Blue Division opponents. DePaul welcomes West Virginia to Chicago on Friday followed by a Sunday afternoon match against Pittsburgh. Friday’s game is the second half of a DePaul soccer doubleheader as the women’s team hosts Cincinnati at 1 p.m.

Game Notes: DePaul’s streak without a goal allowed ended at 318:03... the loss was the first of the season for the Blue Demons in road games (1-1-1)... the Blue Demons are 1-3-1 when taking more shots than their opponent.
