DePaul Takes on Neighborhood Foe Loyola



 

CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s soccer team takes the short trip from Lincoln Park to Rogers Park for a Tuesday evening match with Loyola-Chicago.  The Blue Demons enter the match looking to snap a four-match losing skid.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Loyola Soccer Park.

 

In DePaul’s 2-1 overtime win a year ago, the Blue Demons tied the match on a goal by Tim Blake with under two minutes left in regulation.  In the 107th minute, Luke Rojo secured the DePaul victory with a golden goal as darkness was settling over Wish Field.

Luke Rojo leads the club with two goals this season… the Blue Demons have outshot their opponents, 64-55, but have been outscored, 12-4… they also have 42 corner kicks compared to just 16 combined for the opponents… the Blue Demons dropped their only Conference USA match of the season, 4-0, at Marquette… the club has played just one home match this season while playing four at Northwestern’s Thomas Sports Complex… the next four matches will be played at Wish Field… head coach Craig Blazer is in his third season with the Blue Demons.

Scouting the Ramblers

The Loyola Ramblers enter Tuesday’s match at 4-1-2… they have won their last three matches after starting the season 1-1-2… Bill Metzger leads the club with 11 points on five goals and an assist… during the three-match win streak, they have knocked off Oneonta State (3-2), Illinois-Chicago (2-0) and Northern Illinois (3-0)… head coach Ray O’Connell is in his 23rd season at Loyola.

 

What Lies Ahead

DePaul returns to Wish Field for four consecutive home matches.  The Chicago flavor continues on Sept. 23 when the Blue Demons host the Illinois-Chicago Flames.  That match is followed by Northern Illinois on Oct. 1 with Conference USA members Louisville and Saint Louis coming to Chicago.
