Blue Demons and Phoenix Play to Scoreless Tie
Boxscore CHICAGO – For 110 minutes on Wednesday both teams created a few opportunities, but neither could score as DePaul and UW-Green Bay played to a 0-0 tie at Wish Field. The Phoenix outshot DePaul, 19-9, but neither team could find the back of the net. In the first half, DePaul had their best opportunity of the afternoon as UW-Green Bay’s keeper, Pat Czuprynski, came out for a save. The ball got away and squirted to Kyle Ingram, but his shot sailed wide right. The second half saw the Phoenix pepper DePaul goalkeeper Michael Timlin, but he stonewalled the visitors and finished the afternoon matching his career best with 11 saves. Nearing the end of the second overtime, UW-Green Bay (3-3-1) nearly scored off a free kick, but Brandon Steenlage’s header went just wide of the left post. DePaul answered the threat and Greg Brinkman’s cross was just out of the reach of a diving Jeff DeGroot. The Phoenix took 19 shots overall, including 11 in the second half. Timlin was busy during the period as he made six of the 11 stops. For the Blue Demons, it was their sixth overtime game of the season. DePaul (2-5-2) goes on the road this weekend at Drake. The Blue Demons and Bulldogs tangle at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
