Blue Demons Return to Wish Field on Wednesday
Weekly Notes CHICAGO - The Blue Demons return to Wish Field for a Wednesday afternoon match against Cincinnati before heading to Louisville for a game on Saturday night. DePaul is looking to snap a three-game losing streak and a five-match winless string. Overall, the club is 2-8-2 and 0-3-0 in Conference USA games. Cincinnati enters the week at 2-7-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league play while Louisville is 3-3-3 and 0-0-1 in C-USA action. Looking at the Blue Demons: DePaul has scored one goal in the last four games... the 2-1 win over Evansville on Sept. 17 ended a streak of nine straight wins with a shutout... the Blue Demons have played six overtime matches in their 12 games this season... a year ago, they played just one overtime match and in 2002 there were four games with extra soccer... offensively, the team has scored nine goals, but have allowed only 18... Saint Louis is the only team to score more than two goals against the Blue Demons this season... the team is led by senior Patrick Vyncke with eight points on four goals... Kevin Bissett, John Kornfeld, John Partyka and Alec Kulinczenko have also found the back of the net this season... on the nine goals, there have been eight assists, led by Julian Chill with four... the team has posted 12 wins in their last 19 matches at Wish Field... head coach Craig Blazer is in his fourth season in Lincoln Park. Last Week: DePaul went 0-1-1 in two matches last week. On Wednesday at Saint Louis, the Billikens were too much in a 4-0 decision. Saint Louis scored three times in the first half and added a goal in the second period. The Blue Demons traveled to East Carolina for a Sunday morning match and lost, 2-1, in overtime. John Partyka tied the match in the second half on a penalty kick, but the Pirates scored the ‘golden goal’ midway through the first overtime period to salvage the win. Scouting the Bearcats: Cincinnati enters the match at 2-7-0 and 1-2-0 in C-USA play... last week, they posted a 2-0 loss to Memphis and a 1-0 defeat at UAB... Wiremu Patrick leads the team with seven points on three goals and an assist... as a team, the Bearcats have scored eight goals while allowing just 14... head coach Hylton Dayes is in his fourth season as head coach at Cincinnati. The series: Cincinnati leads the series, 11-6-2... a year ago in Cincinnati, the Bearcats posted a 3-0 victory. Looking Ahead to Saturday: The Louisville Cardinals enter the week at 3-3-3 overall and 0-0-1 in league action... they have tied their last two opponents with a 2-2 game at Marquette and a 1-1 tie against Michigan... Pierre Justin and David Guzman lead the team with six points each... the Cardinals has totaled 12 goals while allowing 16... head coach Tony Colavecchia is in his 10th season as head coach. The series: The Cardinals lead the all-time series, 8-4-1... a year ago at Wish Field, DePaul posted a 1-0 victory... in the last three meetings, the series stands at 1-1-1. Tournament Honors: With two tournaments during the regular season, members of the DePaul soccer team have picked up some honors for their outstanding performances. At the Best Western Lakeside Classic hosted by Northwestern, John Partyka and John Kornfeld were named to the All-Tournament team. Following the Dayton Marriott Flyer Classic, Partyka and Kornfeld were joined by Patrick Vyncke on the All-Tournament team. Ranked in the Region: In the first NSCAA/adidas Midwest Region poll of the season, the Blue Demons found themselves at No. 10. After a pair of losses at the Best Western Lakeside Classic, the club dropped out of the region’s top 10. Over the last two seasons, the Blue Demons have been in-and-out of the region’s top 10 and were ranked as high as No. 8. Conference Breakdown: In their 11 non-conference matches, the Blue Demons face teams from six different conferences. Listed below is a look at DePaul’s record against each of those Division I conferences in 2004: What’s Ahead: DePaul returns to Wish Field for their final three home matches of the 2004 seasons. The team hosts Memphis on Oct. 15 followed by Wisconsin on Oct. 17. Senior Day is set for Oct. 20 against Marquette. The Blue Demons finish the regular season with three road matches at Northern Illinois, Charlotte and UAB. The C-USA Tournament is schedule for Nov. 11-14 in Louisville, Ky.
