Blue Demons Fall To Cincinnati

  • Box Score

With the wind chill factor down around the freezing mark, the DePaul Blue Demons lost to the visiting Cincinnati Bearcats, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Wish Field. Two goals late in the first half by the Bearcats was too much to overcome for DePaul.

In the first half, Cincinnati outshot the Blue Demons, 10-3, and scored goals in the 36th and 39th minutes. Myron Vaughn started the scoring for Cincinnati with a goal from the right side that was assisted by Ryan Schreck. The second Bearcat goal came at 39:21 when Anders Cedergren knocked in a shot from just outside the penalty box.

The Blue Demons picked things up offensively in the second half as they fired seven shots on the Cincinnati goal. Sean Fitzpatrick scored his first goal of the season at 55:45 to cut the deficit to 2-1. Fitzpatrick's goal came on a free kick as he sent the ball through the Cincinnati defense.

The Bearcats answered with their third goal of the match at 68:03 when Scott Lyons took the ball down the right side of the field and put it past DePaul goalkeeper Jash Chavero.

With the loss, the Blue Demons drop to 0-10 overall and 0-4 in league play. Cincinnati improves to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in Conference USA matches. The Blue Demons will go across town on Wednesday to play Illinois-Chicago. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Flames Field.
