DePaul Knocks Off Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman Jared Johnson made his first collegiate goal a memorable one while Brian Visser totaled 11 saves to lead DePaul to a 1-0 win at Louisville in BIG EAST action on Saturday night. The win gives the Blue Demons nine points in the Red Division and moves them into a tie for fourth place. The top six teams advance to the BIG EAST Championship.
Despite being outshot, 20-5, Visser and the Blue Demons held off the Cardinals to notch DePaul’s fourth shutout of the season. Of the 11 stops by the sophomore, five repelled prime scoring opportunities for the Cardinals.
Just eight minutes after entering the match in the second half, Johnson tallied his first career goal off an assist from Julian Chill. Chill found Johnson with a cross and Johnson beat Cardinal keeper David Simolike at 69:56.
Louisville (4-8-1, 3-5-0 BIG EAST) took seven shots in the first half followed by 13 attempts in the second period. The Blue Demons got off three of their five shots in the second half, including Johnson’s game-winner in the 70th minute.
“Our guys kept battling and stayed committed to game plan,” said head coach Craig Blazer. “We’re extremely proud and happy to pick up three points on the road.”
