DePaul Welcomes Valparaiso for Tuesday Matinée
Oct. 8, 2012
CHICAGO – Looking to break out of its three-game losing skid, the DePaul men’s soccer team welcomes visiting Valparaiso to Wish Field on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for its final non-conference matchup of the season.
Despite the goalkeeping heroics of junior Eric Sorby, DePaul (3-8-1) has not been able to collect a win or a goal since a 2-0 victory over Northwestern on the road on September 26.
Sorby has amassed 25 saves over the Blue Demons’ last three matches—an outstanding 8.33 saves per game—but DePaul has not managed to get on the scoreboard.
Last time out, the Blue Demons hosted Villanova on Saturday in Lincoln Park. In that match, the two sides were scoreless until the Wildcats broke through in the 79th minute with an unstoppable goal. DePaul fought back but couldn’t manage the equalizer.
Valparaiso enters Tuesday’s match with a 1-6-3 overall record. The Crusaders’ lone win came on August 27 against Saint Joseph's (Ind.).
Since that match, Valpo has allowed one goal or fewer in six of its seven matches but has not managed a victory.
The lone exception in that time occurred when Valpo traveled to then No. 9 UC-Santa Barabara and fell 2-1. In five of the matches, the Crusaders fell 1-0. Against Loyola, Valparaiso earned a 0-0 double-overtime draw.
