Blue Demons Play at Loyola
CHICAGO - The DePaul men's soccer steps out of Conference USA play for a Wednesday evening match against neighborhood foe Loyola. The Blue Demons are coming off their first win of the season after defeating East Carolina, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon. Noting the Blue Demons Senior forward Chris Greer leads DePaul with eight points on four goals. His four scores this season have moved him into fifth all-time in DePaul history with 25 career goals. Robert Marshall scored his second goal of the year on Saturday and has also tallied an assist this year. Ed Kiefer has a goal this season in addition to a pair of assists while Dimitri Rousseau has a goal and an assist. Jonathan Foley, Denny Meheghan and Anthony Minniti have each scored once. In goal, Jash Chavero and Jeff Kiltzke have each played five matches and combined for a 2.41 goals against average and 51 saves. Chavero needs just two more games to become DePaul's all-time leader in games played by a goalkeeper. Checking Out the Ramblers Brian Contreras leads the team with four goals and two assists. He is followed by Chris Gradilla and Bill Metzger with three scores each. Head coach Ray O’Connell is in his 24th season at Loyola. Loyola leads the all-time series 13-6-1 and defeated DePaul, 5-2, at Wish Field a year ago. Last Time Out - DePaul 2, East Carolina 1 With both teams battling the lack of traction, East Carolina scored the game's first goal on shot by Brian Deutsch at 65:32. The Pirates were able to work in the ball into the penalty box on passes by Joe Ellington and Michael Logan for Deutsch to find the back of the net. Fifteen minutes later after a scramble in front of the net, DePaul's Jonathan Foley knocked in the ball after Dimitri Rousseau's first attempt was deflected by Pirate goalkeeper Roger Marvinney. Foley's goal came at 80:49 in the match. The Blue Demons didn't let up as they kept the pressure on and scored again at 85:13. This time, Robert Marshall headed in a cross from Bob Kruse. Kruse set up the play when DePaul was awarded a free kick after an East Carolina foul. Blue Demon goalkeeper Jeff Klitzke finished the match with eight saves while facing 17 shots. As a team, DePaul had 10 corner kicks and 18 shots. Rearranging the Schedule The match originally scheduled for Sept. 18 at TCU has been moved to Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. The kickoff for the Oct. 20 contest against UAB is now at noon, and the start of Nov. 4 match against Charlotte has been moved up to 1 p.m. Looking Ahead
