Men's Soccer Hosts UAB

CHICAGO - The DePaul Blue Demons host the eighth-ranked UAB Blazers at noon on Saturday at Wish Field.  DePaul enters the match having won two straight matches over East Carolina and Loyola-Chicago.  The Blue Demons are 2-7-2 overall and 1-2-2 in Conference USA play while UAB is 10-2 overall and 4-1 in league action.

Looking at the Blue Demons
Despite winning just two matches this season, the DePaul Blue Demons find themselves in seventh place in the Conference USA standings.  A victory on Saturday could move the Blue Demons into the picture for the Conference USA Tournament in mid-November.  The top six teams travel to Tampa, Fla. for the four-day tourney.  DePaul's overall record is 2-7-2 following Wednesday night's 2-0 win over Loyola-Chicago.

Senior forward Chris Greer leads DePaul with nine points on four goals and an assist.  His four scores this season have moved him into fifth all-time in DePaul history with 25 career goals.  Ed Kiefer and Robert Marshall have two scores apiece this season while Dimitri Rousseau has a goal and an assist.  In goal, keepers Jash Chavero and Jeff Klitzke have combined for a 2.21 goals against average while recording 57 saves.

Checking out UAB
The Blazers enter Saturday's match ranked 10th in the latest NSCAA poll and are 10-2.  UAB is currently second in Conference USA with a 4-1 league record.  Memphis snapped the Blazers' six-match winning with a 3-2 win on Thursday night in Birmingham.

Martin Rey leads the team with nine goals and two assists.  He is followed by Nnamdi Ngwe with three scores and six players with two goals.  As a team, UAB has outscored their opponents, 26-9, and recorded six shutouts this season.

Rearranging the Schedule
With the recent national events, a number of changes have occurred on the 2001 DePaul soccer schedule.  DePaul filled in the two cancelled games at the Leatherneck Kelme Classic with Northern Illinois on Sept. 18 and Western Illinois on Sept. 29.

The match originally scheduled for Sept. 18 at TCU has been moved to Nov. 8 at 3 p.m.  The kickoff for today's contest against UAB is now at noon, and the start of Nov. 4 match against Charlotte has been moved up to 1 p.m.

Looking Ahead
Next weekend, the Blue Demons will head south for a pair of games in Florida.  DePaul plays at South Florida on Oct. 26 and at Stetson on Oct. 28.  On Nov. 2, DePaul takes the bus ride to Valparaiso for a 2:30 p.m. match.

The final home game of the regular season is Nov. 4 against Charlotte at 1 p.m.
