Blue Demons Host Marquette in Home Finale
CHICAGO - The Blue Demons close the home portion of the regular season schedule with a Wednesday afternoon match against Marquette. It will be Senior Day as DePaul recognizes Brian Allen, Claudio Ferre, Kyle Ingram, Kellen Lawler, Luke Rojo and Patrick Vyncke in the final game at Wish Field. Overall, the club is 2-11-3 and 0-5-1 in Conference USA games. Marquette enters the match at 3-8-1 and 0-5-1 in league play.
Looking at the Blue Demons: The Blue Demons have played seven overtime matches in their 16 games this season... a year ago, they played just one overtime match and in 2002 there were four games with extra soccer... the 2-1 win over Evansville on Sept. 17 ended a streak of nine straight wins with a shutout... DePaul has played in 10 matches decided by one goal and are 1-9 in those games... offensively, the team has scored 11 goals, but have allowed 23... Saint Louis is the only team to score more than two goals against the Blue Demons this season... the team is led by senior Patrick Vyncke with 10 points on five goals... Kevin Bissett, John Kornfeld, John Partyka and Alec Kulinczenko have also found the back of the net this season... on the 10 goals, there have been nine assists, led by Julian Chill with four... head coach Craig Blazer is in his fourth season in Lincoln Park.
Last Week: DePaul went 0-2-0 in two matches last week. On Friday against Memphis, the team dropped a 2-1 decision before falling, 1-0, to Wisconsin on Sunday. Friday’s match saw John Partyka tie the game on a penalty kick in the 57th minute before the Tigers’ Dayton O’Brien won the match on a free kick just outside the box at 79:52.
Sunday’s match saw the visiting Badgers scored in the ninth minute and hold off the Blue Demons, 1-0. Wisconsin outshot DePaul, 12-3, while Blue Demons keepers Brian Allen and Michael Timlin combined for three saves.
Scouting the Golden Eagles: Marquette enters Wednesday’s match at 3-8-1 overall and a 0-5-1 Conference USA mark... they are winless in five of their last six matches with a 1-4-1 record... the Golden Eagles lost to Charlotte, 2-1, on Saturday in Milwaukee... Chris Lee leads the team with 17 points on eight goals and an assist... Matt Blouin ranks second on the team with three goals and an assist... head coach Steve Adlard is in his 13th season as head coach at Marquette. The Series: Marquette leads the series, 22-0-1... a year ago in Milwaukee, the Golden Eagles posted a 4-0 victory with goals in each half.
Tournament Honors: With two tournaments during the regular season, members of the DePaul soccer team have picked up some honors for their outstanding performances. At the Best Western Lakeside Classic hosted by Northwestern, John Partyka and John Kornfeld were named to the All-Tournament team. Following the Dayton Marriott Flyer Classic, Partyka and Kornfeld were joined by Patrick Vyncke on the All-Tournament team.
Ranked in the Region: In the first NSCAA/adidas Midwest Region poll of the season, the Blue Demons found themselves at No. 10. After a pair of losses at the Best Western Lakeside Classic, the club dropped out of the region’s top 10. Over the last two seasons, the Blue Demons have been in-and-out of the region’s top 10 and were ranked as high as No. 8.

What’s Ahead: The Blue Demons finish the regular season with three road matches at Northern Illinois, Charlotte and UAB. DePaul travels to DeKalb to take on the Huskies next Wednesday before playing at Charlotte on Oct. 30 and UAB on Nov. 6. The C-USA Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 11-14 in Louisville, Ky.
