Blue Demons Play at TCU and Memphis
CHICAGO - The men's soccer team wraps up the 2001 campaign with road matches at TCU and Memphis. The Blue Demons take on the Horned Frogs Thursday followed by a Saturday match with the Tigers. DePaul enters the final weekend of the regular season at 2-12-2. Looking at the Blue Demons Senior forward Chris Greer leads DePaul with nine points on six goals and an assist. His six scores this season have moved him into fourth all-time in DePaul history with 27 career goals. Robert Marshall and Ed Kiefer have scored three times this season while Kiefer has a team-high three assists. In goal, keepers Jash Chavero and Jeff Klitzke have combined for a 2.38 goals against average while recording 71 saves. Checking Out This Weekend's Opponents The Memphis Tigers are currently 4-9-2 overall and 2-6-1 in conference play. They have three straight matches, including a 4-3 overtime decision to Louisville on Nov. 4. Sean Fraser leads the team with 12 goals and three assists while Lars Thorstensen checks in with seven goals and five assists. The Tigers host Lipscomb in a non-conference match on Thursday night before playing the Blue Demons on Saturday. Last Time Out - Charlotte 2, DePaul 1 Charlotte's Juan Munoz-Airey scored the game's first goal in the 35th minute to give the 49ers the early lead. Munoz-Airey took a pass from David McGill and flipped it over Blue Demon keeper Jash Chavero from 15 yards out. Eight minutes later, DePaul tied the match on a header by Chris Greer. Greer headed in a low pass from Ed Kiefer who served the ball from the right sideline. The goal for Greer moved him into fourth place all-time at DePaul with 27 career scores. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie as each team took four shots. The second half was back-and-forth until McGill scored the game-winner at 63:47. Omar Belkhiter served the ball into the penalty box and Shane Crew headed it across to the left side of the goal where McGill headed the ball past Chavero.
