Blue Demons get contributions from everyone and shine on the first day of the season

CHICAGO – The No. 68 DePaul men’s tennis team started its 2012 dual season in dominating fashion – sweeping UIC and Detroit on Saturday at the Lakeshore Sport and Fitness Center. The Blue Demons claimed straight-set singles victories in 11 of their 12 matches.
DePaul opened its season with an impressive 7-0 win over cross-town rival UIC and followed that up with a 7-0 victory over Detroit.
Filip Dzanko and George Chanturia combined for a pair of doubles victories in the No. 1 spot. The Blue Demon duo started their day with an 8-6 win over Alexander Raa and Maurizio Feoli from UIC. Against Detroit, the Blue Demon duo did not drop a game, dominating the match with an 8-0 victory which set the tone for the match against the Titans.
Mathias Hambach stood out in singles as the Blue Demon junior started his day with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Francisco Pereira from UIC in the fourth position.
Hambach continued to hit his stride against the Titans. The junior teamed-up with Josh Dancu for a thrilling 9-8 win over Cesar Escobar and Chris Cheung which completed the Blue Demon doubles sweep. With an exciting win, Hambach carried that momentum into his singles match, overpowering Mike Basha 6-0, 6-0.
Against UIC, Adam Reinhart clinched DePaul’s win on the sixth court with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gautham Oroskar.
Dancu, who was also playing in the sixth position, clinched DePaul’s victory over Detroit with his 6-2, 6-3, over Pablo Nunez.
DePaul returns to action next weekend when it hosts Toledo and No. 64 Purdue. The Blue Demons and Rockets hit the courts on Jan. 20 while the Boilermakers come to town for a dual on Jan. 22.
