Men's Tennis Sweeps Dartmouth
Jan. 28, 2011
CHICAGO - The DePaul men's tennis team improved to 4-1 on the young season with a 7-0 win over Dartmouth on Friday at the Lakeshore Athletic Club.
The Blue Demons set the tone of the match by winning all three doubles matches. Sven Kasper and Bartosz Jozwiak teamed-up for an 8-5 win on the first court before Filip Dzanko and Ben Hartman finished off Cameron Ghorbani and Brandon DeBot in the third position to secure the doubles point.
As the doubles courts cleared, the packed balcony of the Lakeshore Athletic Club along with the Blue Demon squad clapped in unison as Matija Palinic and Mathias Hambach closed out their hard fought 9-8 (5) win to complete the sweep.
Heading into singles, Kasper picked up where he left off and overpowered Michael Laser 6-0, 6-1 for DePaul's second point of the dual. Kasper improves to 9-7 overall while he is 4-1 when playing in the top spot.
Palinic was second off the court in the number two position with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Xander Centenari.
With the top two courts done and the far courts still playing in their first sets, the crowds parted before all eyes moved to the sixth court where Hambach had battled back from a 1-0 deficit. The sophomore tied the match at one with a 6-2 set-two victory over Brandon DeBot.
Down 3-2, Hambach won his next two games to take a 4-3 lead in the final set. Hambach broke DeBot's serve before winning the final game which secured the Blue Demon victory.
DePaul returns to the courts next weekend and hosts #63 Iowa at the Lakeshore Athletic Club on Feb. 5 before playing Princeton at the Glenbrook Racquet Club Sunday.
