Blue Demon Men's Tennis Drops Dual Match at No. 75 Oregon
Feb. 2, 2013
EUGENE, Ore. - The DePaul men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback at the hands of No. 75 Oregon on Saturday at the UO Student Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Blue Demons dropped to 1-3 overall. The Ducks improved to 5-0 in dual matches this season.
Oregon jumped out to an early lead, grabbing the doubles point with three straight wins despite fierce competition from the Blue Demon duos.
Number one pair Mathias Hambach and Filip Dzanko played a tight match with Jeff Mullen and Robin Cambier before dropping an 8-6 result. At the two, Sten Leusink and Jan-Willem Feilzer saw another close one end in a tie-breaker, 8-7 (3).
In singles, Leusink moved up a spot from his past three matches and pushed Mullen to a tie-break in the two hole before falling 6-7, 6-2, 10-4. The loss snapped a three-match winning streak for the freshman.
It was the first time the Blue Demons have been shut out in a match since April 4, 2012 at then-No. 43 Notre Dame.
DePaul will face another quick turnaround, playing their third match in as many days tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 3, when they meet Idaho to wrap up the weekend. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
