DePaul's Home Opener a Real Winner
Feb. 11, 2018

CHICAGO – DePaul was leading Davidson 3-2 during Alex Galoustian’s match against the Wildcats’ Artem Khrapko.

Galoustian split the first two sets and then came through big-time in the decisive set 6-0 to secure the winning point in the Blue Demons’ 4-3 victory Sunday night at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.

It was a fitting climax to DePaul’s home opener by the team’s No. 1 singles player as coach Matt Brothers and the men’s tennis program improved to 7-3 on the dual-match season.

After dropping the first doubles match, the Blue Demons swept to the doubles point behind the winning tandems of Luke Wassenaar and Christopher Casati followed by Tripp Tuff and Conor O’Meara.

Davidson (3-3), alma mater of NBA star Steph Curry, won the opening singles match. Wassenaar at No. 5 and Tamas Zador at No. 3 responded with back-to-back victories, setting the stage for Galoustian’s clincher.

Up next for this Band of Brothers is a home match Saturday against Valparaiso that is scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m. at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
