WILMINGTON, N.C. – Playing its first match of its Spring Break trip in North Carolina, the No. 75 DePaul men’s tennis team fell to Campbell 4-3 on Wednesday at the UNCW Tennis Complex.

The Blue Demons got strong singles performances from George Chanturia, Matija Palinic and Mathias Hambach, but could not come back after losing the doubles point.

Adam Reinhart and Palinic started the dual off with their sixth straight win when they defeated August Iwdal and Ondrej Kralik.  Playing together since Feb. 24, the Blue Demon pair is a perfect 6-0 on the season and on the third court.

DePaul dropped the remaining two doubles matches and headed into singles down, 1-0.

Palinic, who was playing in the third position for the first time this season, tied the dual at one with his 6-4, 6-2 victory over David Clavera.

Hambach gave the Blue Demons a 2-1 advantage when he topped Josep Baro 6-2, 6-2 for his second consecutive single wins.  Hambach improves to 15-12 on the season and is 9-7 in the number four spot.

The Camels regained the lead with victories on the sixth and second courts before Chanturia knotted the dual at three all.  Chanturia, who was playing in the top singles spot for the first time since January, defeated Adrien Rossignon 7-5, 6-3.  The win was Chanturia’s 21st of the season and 44th in his two seasons with DePaul.

With the match on the line, all the focus shifted to the fifth court where Reinhart and Campbell newcomer August Iwdal were heading into their third set.  Iwdal won the first set 7-5, but the Reinhart claimed the second set 6-4 to send it to a deciding frame.

With each team cheering loudly for every point, Reinhart and Iwdal traded games before the Camel freshman won the final two games which clinched the dual for Campbell (6-7).

DePaul (10-9) returns to the courts on Friday when they play at UNC Wilmington.  The first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Mar. 23.
