DePaul Falls to Phoenix, 5-2
March 24, 2013
CHICAGO - DePaul men's tennis got singles wins from junior Filip Dzanko and senior Mathias Hambachat the top two positions, but it wasn't enough on Sunday as the Blue Demons fell to Green Bay, 5-2, at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
With the setback, DePaul drops to 3-12 overall. It was the first home loss of the year for the Blue Demons (now 3-1 at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness). Green Bay improved to 10-6 with the win.
The Phoenix grabbed the doubles point to start the match, taking courts two and three before freshman Sten Leusinkand Dzanko teamed up for a win at first doubles in a tight 9-8 (5) match against Craig Cox and Erik Finkenbrink.
DePaul nearly rallied for the win in singles play and took four matches to third sets, but could only bring home the point at first singles.
Dzanko was the lone winner in a deciding third set, taking down Green Bay's Michael Tenzer for his third straight singles win by a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Hambach followed with a straight set victory, 6-3, 7-5, over Finkenbrink at the two spot.
DePaul will play next at Belmont on Wednesday, March 27. Match time is to be announced.
