DePaul Grinds Out Win Over Memphis

Murfreesboro, Tenn. — In one of the most exciting matches of the season, the No. 66 DePaul men’s tennis team defeated Memphis, 4-3 to advance to the Championship match of the Sun Belt Shootout on Sunday.

Playing singles first, the Blue Demons and Tigers split the six matches and moved to the doubles courts to decide the match.  

DePaul’s number three team of Mathias Hambach and Filip Dzanko topped John Taylor and Leon Nasemann, 8-2 to pull the Blue Demons within one win of the their 14th victory of the season.

Memphis’ number two team evened the doubles point at one with a win over Matija Palinic and George Chanturia.

With all the focus and the teams gathered and cheering loudly around the first court -- the Blue Demon pair of Sven Kasper and Bartosz Jozwiak dug deep to secure the DePaul’s win.

DePaul’s number one team traded points with Jordon Smith and David Henry before capturing the final two games to seal the victory.

In singles action, Chanturia, Dzanko and Jozwiak were all three winners.  Chanturia and Dzanko were both winners earlier in the day against Troy. 

Jozwiak won his 76th career singles match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Cedric DeZutter in sixth position.

The Blue Demons play either Denver or Florida Atlantic for the Championship on Sunday.
