Men's Tennis Downs Marquette 6-1
April 21, 2018

CHICAGO – DePaul went two-for-two against BIG EAST rival Marquette on Saturday.

Just several hours after the women’s tennis team downed the Golden Eagles 6-0 in Milwaukee, the men’s tennis team finished off its regular season with a flourish thanks to a 6-1 triumph over Marquette.

It was the third win in a row for coach Matt Brothers and his team who head into next week’s BIG EAST Men’s Tennis Championship with a dual-match record of 15-9, 3-1 in conference.

The No. 1 doubles team of Alex Galoustian and Boris Spanjaard set the tone right away with a 6-2 win over the Golden Eagles’ No. 1 tandem at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.

After Marquette drew even at No. 2 doubles, BIG EAST Athlete of the Week Christopher Casati and Tripp Tuff secured the doubles point with a 6-2 decision at No. 3.

Tuff and Luuk Wassenaar opened singles play with back-to-back wins before Marquette (14-6, 4-2) got on the scoreboard at No. 5 singles.

Casati made sure to shift the momentum back towards the home team with his two-set triumph at No. 3 singles. Spanjaard followed suit at No. 1 and Galoustian capped off a terrific performance with his win at No. 2.

It was the perfect way for Galoustian to finish off his home career as the senior from north suburban Glencoe won his singles and doubles matches in his Lakeshore Sport & Fitness farewell performance.
