Men's Tennis Wraps Up Weekend Play at Purdue, Baylor

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The DePaul men's tennis team finished up play at the Purdue Fall Invitational on Sunday, September 23 as freshman Kyle Johnson bowed out in the semifinal match of the Flight B singles draw and teamed up with sophomore Adam Reinhart to win the doubles consolation bracket. After winning three matches to begin the weekend, Johnson fell 6-1, 6-2 to Purdue's Evan Hawkins in his attempt to reach the finals and is now 5-2 overall on the fall. In doubles, however, Johnson and Reinhart picked up their second doubles win of the weekend with a 9-7 decision over IPFW's Tim Saltys and Alfonzo Costas. Overall, DePaul went 11-8 in singles play and 5-4 in doubles over the past three days at Purdue and the HEB Invitational in Waco, Texas, where junior Filip Dzanko made it to the round of 16 with a pair of singles wins. Next up for the men's tennis team will be a trip to Tulsa, Okla. to participate in the ITA All-Americans tournament, which will stretch from Sept. 29 until October 7. Pre-qualifiers run Sept. 29-30 and qualifying goes from October 1-3. The main draw will take place Oct. 4-7 at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
