Wildcat Invitational - Day Two
EVANSTON, Ill. – The DePaul men’s tennis team finished the second day of the Wildcat Invitational by claiming the B-Flight Doubles title and George Chanturia reached the semifinals and Adam Reinhart reached the championship match of their respective singles bracket.
The way the B-Flight doubles bracket was set up – Mathias Hambach and his doubles partner Sven Kasper were supposed to meet Filip Dzanko and Adam Reinhart in the flight’s championship; not wanting an all-DePaul final, the bracket was switched and both Blue Demon teams got a win.
Hambach and Kasper topped Western Michigan’s Marc Shideler and Pablo Olivarez 9-7. The win was the duo’s third of the weekend. Dzanko and Reinhart also picked up their third victory in doubles play with their 8-6 win over Iowa’s Mitch Beckert and Andres Estenssoro.
In the A-Singles flight, George Chanturia won his second match of the tournament and moved into the semifinals with his hard-fought 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) win over Ross Guignon from Illinois.
Reinhart will play for the championship of D-Singles flight after topping Michael Swank from Iowa 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday. The Blue Demon freshman, who has won his last two matches, plays Illinois State’s Willi Peter at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Josh Dancu also picked up a singles victory on Saturday in the C Flight. The Blue Demon freshman recorded 6-4, 3-6, 12-10 over BIG EAST Conference rival from Marquette.
