KALAMAZOO, Mich. - DePaul's Bartosz Jozwiak and Sven Kasper won the doubles bracket of the Jack Vredevelt Invitational on Friday at West Hills Athletic Club.  The Blue Demon pair won four straight matches on its way to the tournaments championship.

"I am very pleased with how the guys have played doubles both last week and this week," head men's tennis coach Matt Brothers said.   "Practice has started to pay off and I am very confident in all of the combinations that we have been forced to put together with injures. Hopefully we can parley this success into singles on Saturday."

Jozwiak and Kasper entered the Vredevelt Invitational with a 6-3 record and were looking for redemption after the Cleveland State pair of Robert Fox and John Hanley ended the Blue Demons' run at the ITA Midwest Regional the week before.

With payback in mind, Jozwiak and Kasper battled for every point and walked away with an opening round win over Fox and Hanley which kept the Blue Demon pair in the winner's bracket.

To claim the doubles crown, Jozwiak and Kasper would face an even tougher challenge as the pair had to beat three-straight duos from Western Michigan.

Jozwiak and Kasper won their next two matches by the exact same score -- 8-2, which put the pair into bracket's championship match.

Battling with Michael and Thomas Calderone on their home court, Jozwiak and Kasper won the doubles title with an 8-6 victory.  The pair is the second Blue Demon team to win a bracket this fall -- George Chanturia and Matija Palinic won the Purdue Fall Invitational Doubles B-Flight title in September.

Ben Hartman and Chanturia went 2-2 on the day.  The Blue Demon pair won their first two matches, but fell to Calderon and Calderon in the quarterfinals and then lost their consolation match.

Vredevelt singles brackets begin on Saturday with Kasper and Bartosz representing DePaul in the A Flight while Chanturia and Hartman compete in the B Flight.  Mathias Hambach competes in the C Flight while Palinic will play in the D Flight.
