CHICAGO- The DePaul men’s tennis team opens its 2007 dual season this weekend with road matches at Northwestern and Ball State.  The Blue Demons face the Wildcats on Friday at 6 p.m. in Evanston, Illinois before traveling to Muncie, Indiana for a Sunday match against Ball State at noon.

First-year Head Coach Arvid Swan’s team enters the dual season after posting several victories in singles and doubles competition during the fall tournament schedule against talent from Boston College, Michigan State, and BIG EAST rival Marquette.

Sophomore Austin Doerner posted an overall singles record of 6-2 in the fall, while senior George Wang went 5-4 and reached the main draw of October’s ITA Midwest Regional.  Doerner teamed with sophomore Jose Moncada to record the squad’s best doubles record at 6-5.

DePaul split its previous meetings with this weekend’s foes, defeating Ball State 5-2 at the Spartan Invitational in October 2005 but falling 7-0 to Northwestern in January 2006.

Swan spent the last three years on the coaching staff at Northwestern.  He served two years as an assistant for the Wildcats and one year as associate head coach before joining the Blue Demons in June 2006.
