Men's Tennis Returns to the Court, Hosts Local Rivals on Saturday

CHICAGO - The No. 74 DePaul men's tennis team opens it dual schedule by hosting UIC and the University of Chicago on Saturday at the Lakeshore Athletic Club.   The Blue Demons and Flames begin at 2 p.m., while the Maroons take the court at 6 p.m.

Head coach Matt Brothers' squad begins the dual season after a fall tournament campaign that saw strong singles performances across the board as the Blue Demons combined for a 50-37 record.  Mathias Hambach and Matija Palinic each recorded 10 singles victories, while Bartosz Jozwiak won his final four matches of the season and claimed the Vredevelt Invitational Brown Flight Championship.

In doubles action, Ben Hartman and Jozwiak had a team-best 9-2 record, while they won the Ball State Invitational Flight A Championship.  Playing some of the best teams in the Midwest, the Blue Demons combined for a 21-17 doubles record.

DePaul has won the last six series meetings with UIC, while the two teams have routinely met in the first week of the dual competition schedule.  Against the University of Chicago, the Blue Demons have won both duals by a score of 7-0.

Following Saturday's duals, DePaul retools and welcomes Northern Illinois on Jan. 22 to the Lakeshore Athletic Club.  The first serve in doubles action is set for 7 p.m.
