Men's Tennis Sweeps UIC in Home Opener
CHICAGO- The DePaul men’s tennis team posted a 7-0 sweep of cross-town rival UIC at the Lakeshore Athletic Club on Friday. The Blue Demons improve to 2-1 in dual action after taking the doubles point and all six singles matches in their home opener.
Jose Moncada and Austin Doerner kicked off doubles action for DePaul with an 8-5 victory over Andy Lockhart and Sebastian Lystad. They were followed by teammates George Wang and Alasdair Graetz, who posted an 8-5 win over Adriano Liccardo and Bastian Harbo. Danny Wilson and Vanja Grgec concluded the Blue Demons’ success in doubles with an 8-5 win over Eric Fey and Sam Sweeney.
Wang opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Liccardo before Doerner defeated Lystad 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Moncada clinched DePaul’s team victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Fey in the third singles match. The evening closed with Grgec, Graetz and Jack Komar completing the sweep of the Flames.
