Men's Tennis Duals with Northern Illinois and Western Michigan this Weekend

CHICAGO - The No. 74 DePaul men's tennis team takes to the courts this weekend playing at home on Friday against local-rival Northern Illinois at 7 p.m., while it closes out the weekend at Western Michigan on Sunday with the dual beginning Noon.

DePaul and Northern Illinois have not met since the 2008 season when the Blue Demons won that dual 5-2.  After taking the doubles point, current Blue Demon student-athletes Vanja Grgec, Bartosz Jozwiak, Alasdair Graetz and Ben Hartman won their respective singles matches to seal DePaul's victory over the Huskies.

DePaul and Western Michigan split their two meetings last season.  The Blue Demons won in Lincoln Park, 4-3 while two weeks later WMU took the neutral court meeting by the exact same score.  During the 2009 fall tournament season, DePaul and Western Michigan squared off in 15 singles matches with the Broncos holding a slight 8-7 advantage.

The Blue Demons opened the dual portion of their schedule with wins over UIC and the University of Chicago last weekend.  Ranked No. 74 in the initial Campbell's ITA rankings, the Blue Demons lost just two matches during Saturday's dual doubleheader.

Mathias Hambach and Matija Palinic lead DePaul with 12 singles victories while Grgec boasts a 9-4 singles record.  On the doubles side, Hartman and Jozwiak own an 11-2 record and have won their last three matches.

Following this weekend's action, the Blue Demons hit the road for the Harvard Invitational Jan. 29-31.  DePaul begins February with four home matches at the Lakeshore Athletic Club; the Blue Demons welcome Illinois State and Green Bay on Feb. 6, while No. 57 Middle Tennessee State duals on Feb. 14 before Toledo visits on Feb. 19.
