Undefeated Blue Demons Travel to Texas to Face UTA and No. 43 SMU
CHICAGO After an exciting win against Purdue, the undefeated DePaul men’s tennis team travels to the state of Texas to take on the University of Texas-Arlington, Fri., Jan. 23 before traveling to Dallas on Sunday to face No. 43 South Methodist University.
Last time out, DePaul traveled to West Lafayette, Ind. to defeat Purdue in their home opener, 4-3. With the team scores locked at three, Ben Hartman came up with an exciting victory against Branko Kuzmanovic, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3, to surge the Blue Demons ahead for the win. Also earning singles wins for DePaul were Alasdair Graetz, Bartosz Jozwiak, and Jose Moncada.
DePaul opened their season the week before with dominant performances against UIC and the University of Chicago. The two wins, in addition to last week’s victory over the Boilermakers, marks the first time in over 10 years that the Blue Demons have opened their season 3-0.
UTA opens their dual schedule against DePaul at the UTA Tennis Center. The young Maverick squad is led by senior Dmitry Minkin and junior Gonzalo Bienzobas.
Following the dual in Arlington, the Blue Demons travel 20 miles east to Dallas to face No. 43-ranked SMU. No. 118-ranked Artem Borodach helped the team earn an NCAA Tournament berth last season, following a third place finish in Conference USA.
Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m (CST) on Friday against UTA, while the first serve on Jan. 25 versus SMU is slated for 12 p.m.
