Men's Tennis Heads to Toledo and Western Michigan
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s tennis team continues its 2008 dual campaign this weekend with road matches at Toledo and Western Michigan. The Blue Demons face the Rockets on Saturday at Laurel Hill Tennis Club in Toledo, Ohio before they take on the No. 59 Broncos on Sunday at West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Saturday’s dual is slated for 2 p.m. (CST) and Sunday’s competition begins at noon. DePaul carries a 1-1 record into the weekend, while Toledo is currently 2-1 and WMU stands at 3-0. The Blue Demons suffered a 4-3 loss to Michigan State last Saturday after they opened the season two weeks ago with a 7-0 sweep over cross-town rival UIC. Junior Jose Moncada boasts a 2-0 record at No. 2 singles, freshman Bartosz Jozwiak is 2-0 at No. 5 singles and freshman Adam Williams is 2-0 at No. 6 singles. The 2007 season saw DePaul split its meetings with Toledo and WMU. The Blue Demons defeated the Rockets, 6-1, on March 31 in Indianapolis, Indiana after they suffered a 5-2 road loss to the Broncos on February 4. DePaul’s last dual win over WMU came during the 2002 season when the Blue Demons topped the Broncos, 5-1, at the Lakeshore Athletic Club. WMU is the first nationally-ranked opponent on a DePaul dual schedule that includes five teams currently in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Top 75 poll. The Blue Demons hold two spots in the latest ITA Midwest Regional rankings. The singles poll places Moncada at No. 21, while junior Austin Doerner and Moncada sit at No. 15 in the doubles poll.
