Men's Tennis Loses at Western Michigan
KALAMAZOO, Mich. The DePaul men’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 road loss to No. 59 Western Michigan on Sunday. Junior Jose Moncada recorded a singles victory for the Blue Demons at West Hills Athletic Club. Moncada gave DePaul its sole point of the day as he knocked off Alex Birchmeier, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. The top singles match saw junior Austin Doerner suffer a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Kevin Hayward before freshman Bartosz Jozwiak fell, 6-4, 6-3 to Michael Calderone at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Alasdair Graetz dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Bryan Norville at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Vanja Grgec lost, 7-5, 6-2, to Kazuya Komada at no. 4 singles. The No. 6 singles match saw freshman Ben Hartman fall in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, (10-6) to Alejandro Staub. The Blue Demons lost all three doubles matches to the Broncos (4-1). Freshman Adam Williams and Graetz came up short in a close, 9-8 (7-4), loss to Kevin Hayward and Casey Cullen at No. 3 doubles. DePaul (2-2) returns to action on Saturday, February 2 with a road dual at No. 48 Kentucky. The Blue Demons and Wildcats meet at 3 p.m. (CST) in Lexington, Kentucky.
