Men's Tennis Shuts Out Valparaiso



CHICAGO – The No. 71 DePaul men’s tennis team posted a 7-0 sweep over Valparaiso on Friday at the Lakeshore Athletic Club.  The Blue Demons improve their dual record to 3-1 after taking the doubles point and all six singles matches at home.

 

Jose Moncada and Austin Doerner took the court for DePaul in the top doubles flight and delivered an 8-5 victory over Nic Kooyers and Joe Venegas.  In the second doubles match, George Wang and Alasdair Graetz rolled past Valparaiso’s duo of Alex Lau and David Bukowski by a score of 8-3.  Danny Wilson and Vanja Grgec also posted an 8-3 win for the Blue Demons, defeating Mike Wagner and Tom Litscher at No. 3.

 

Singles action saw Wang deliver a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Kooyers in the top flight, while Doerner rolled past Wagner by a score of 6-1, 6-1 in the second match.  Moncada defeated Bukowski, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, and Grgec grabbed a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Venegas in the fourth flight.  Graetz posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over Alex Lau in the fifth match, while Wilson rounded out the Blue Demons’ sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Litscher at No. 6.

 

DePaul has won its last three duals while sweeping two consecutive opponents.  The Blue Demons entered the national rankings this week at No. 71, their first ranking since the 2005 season.

 

DePaul’s returns to action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. dual against No. 30 Arkansas.  The Blue Demons and the Razorbacks face off at the Northwestern Tennis Center in Evanston, Illinois.
