Men's Tennis Cruises Past No. 30 Arkansas

EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 71 DePaul men’s tennis team rolled over No. 30 Arkansas in 6-1 victory on Saturday at the Northwestern Tennis Center.  The Blue Demons grabbed the doubles point and five singles matches, improving their dual record to 4-1.

DePaul took two of three doubles matches to earn the first point of the dual.  George Wang and Alasdair Graetz defeated Andrei Nicoara and Branden Joost at No. 2 doubles, while Vanja Grgec and Danny Wilson posted an 8-4 win over Drew Sosebee and Dmitry Vlaskin in the third flight.  The first doubles match saw Austin Doerner and Jose Moncada drop an 8-6 decision to the Razorbacks’ Blake Strode and Colin Mascall.

Doerner and Moncada used singles competition to bounce back from their doubles loss.  Doerner took revenge on Mascall with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2, while Moncada defeated Gabriel Mattos, 7-6, 6-2, in the third match.

The Blue Demons added victories in the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches.  Grgec defeated Dmitry Lebedev in a 6-2, 7-6 decision at No. 4, while Graetz took Nicoara in three sets at No. 5 with a score of 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.  Jack Komar gave DePaul a point at No. 6, defeating Vlaskin in a 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 match.

DePaul’s only lost point came in the top singles flight as Wang fell to Strode; 7-6, 6-4.

The Blue Demons have defeated four consecutive opponents and return to action tomorrow against No. 56 Western Michigan.  DePaul meets the Broncos for a noon dual at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
