Men's Tennis Hosts Illinois State and Green Bay on Saturday
CHICAGO - The DePaul men's tennis team returns to the Lakeshore Athletic Club for a pair of duals on Saturday. The Blue Demons square off with Illinois State at 2 p.m. before taking on Green Bay in the nightcap set to begin at 7 p.m.
DePaul's first dual is against a familiar opponent in Illinois State (2-1). The Redbirds and Blue Demons (3-4) squared off against in two fall tournaments with DePaul recording a 9-1 record in singles while doubles played even with both squads winning two matches. The Blue Demons and Redbirds have played three duals since 2006 with DePaul winning all three.
The Blue Demons swept the two previous meetings with Green Bay (2-1) in 2009 and in 2004. Both duals were at the Lakeshore Athletic Club.
Matija Palinic leads DePaul with a 14-8 record, while Mathias Hambach has recorded 13 wins and Vanja Grgec follows with 10. The Blue Demons have combined for 68-55 record in singles play this season.
In doubles action the dynamic duo of Ben Hartman and Bartosz Jozwiak have won six of their last eight matches and boast a 14-4 record for the Blue Demons. DePaul has combined for 35-23 record in doubles action, while it is 4-0 in doubles matches played at the No. 2 position.
The Blue Demons have won their last 23 home matches with their last loss coming during the 2005-06 season.
Following the doubleheader dual on Saturday, DePaul hosts No. 57 Middle Tennessee State on Feb. 14. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
