Illinois State Ends DePaul's Home Court Winning Streak at 23
CHICAGO - DePaul's 23-match winning streak at the Lakeshore Athletic Club came to an end as Illinois State topped the Blue Demons, 4-3 on Saturday. The dual was the first of two for DePaul as it hosts Green Bay tonight at 7 p.m. The doubles point came down to the final match as DePaul's Vanja Grgec and Mathias Hambach topped Skip Span and Michah LeMoine 8-4 in the No. 3 match while Illinois State won the No. 2 match 8-5. With all eyes on the No. 1 match, DePaul's Ben Hartman and Bartosz Jozwiak broke Alexander Pelaes and Filip Miljevic's serve to tie the match at seven, but the Redbird pair held on to take the match 9-7 and the doubles point. Singles play was equally competitive, Hambach tied the dual at one apiece with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Span at the No. 5 position. ISU quickly regained the lead when Miljevic topped Hartman in the No. 3 match 6-3, 6-2. Like a see-saw, Douglas Perrin tied the match at two with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win Xavier Riart-Ferrer. The Redbirds won the next two matches at No. 1 and No.2 to clinch the dual for Illinois State. Alasdair Graetz registered DePaul's final point of the match when he came-from-behind and topped Zlatkovic 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. The Blue Demons play Green Bay in the night cap of the dual doubleheader.
