Men's Tennis Wins Two at Lakeshore
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s tennis team dominated both ends of a home-opening doubleheader on Saturday. The Blue Demons (5-3) topped BIG EAST Conference rival Georgetown, 6-1, before they swept Valparaiso, 7-0, at Lakeshore Athletic Club. DePaul opened the day by taking all three doubles matches from the Hoyas. Sophomore Alasdair Graetz and Freshman Adam Williams posted an 8-1 victory over Anthony Tan and Adam Gross at No. 1 doubles, while freshman Bartosz Jozwiak and sophomore Vanja Grgec defeated Kevin Walsh and Will Lowell, 8-5, in the No. 2 spot. Junior Jose Moncada and freshman Ben Hartman edged out Ted Tywang and Jeffery Schnell, 9-7, at No. 3 doubles. The Blue Demons kept up the pace in singles play as they took five of six matches from Georgetown. Moncada knocked off Tan, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles and Graetz delivered a 6-4, 6-2 win over Schnell at No. 2. The No. 3 match saw Grgec roll past Lowell, 6-4, 6-2, while Jozwiak topped David Tillem, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4. Hartman improved to 7-0 in dual-season singles play with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Gross. The nightcap dual was all DePaul as the Blue Demons took the doubles point from the Crusaders before sweeping singles play. Adam Williams earned his first singles victory of the spring as he rallied to a three-set win over Kyle Stump at No. 6. After dropping the first set, 3-6, Williams roared back to take the second frame, 6-2, and the tiebreaker, 10-5. DePaul also received singles wins against Valparaiso from Moncada, Graetz, Grgec, Jozwiak and Hartman. The Blue Demons return to action next weekend with a pair of road duals in Lincoln, Nebraska. DePaul challenges Nebraska on Saturday at 8 p.m. before facing Texas-San Antonio on Sunday at 9 a.m.
