Feb. 10, 2011
CHICAGO – Armed with its No. 66 nationally ranking and on the wings of four-match winning streak the DePaul men’s tennis team hits the road this weekend for duals at No. 51 Clemson and Furman. The Blue Demons and Tigers clash on Feb. 11 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m. (CST) while the first serve of Sunday’s dual with the Paladins is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Greenville, SC. The Blue Demons (6-1) are off to an amazing start to their 2011 spring season with their last two wins coming against ranked opponents -- No. 63 Iowa and No. 73 Princeton. Those wins along with shutout victories over Detroit, UIC and Dartmouth have given the Blue Demons their first nationally ranking since Jan. 25, 2010. DePaul has combined for a 64-37 mark in singles action while Bartosz Jozwiak, George Chanturia, Ben Hartman, Sven Kasper and Matija Palinic have all reached double-digit singles wins. Jozwiak lead the squad with 12-7 mark and has played in the number two, three, four, five and six positions this season. The senior boasts a 2-1 mark in the fourth position and has won three of his last four matches. The Blue Demons hold a 36-16 record in doubles action, while Jozwiak and Kasper have recorded a team-best 14-6 mark. Chanturia and Palinic are also stacking up the wins in doubles and boast a 10-3 record on the season. Clemson (6-2) enters the weekend ranked No. 51 after falling to No. 3 Tennessee in the second round of the ITA Kick Off Weekend Classic. DePaul is the fourth nationally ranked opponent Clemson has faced while the Tigers are 1-2 in those matches. Furman (0-5) is still looking for its first win of the season. The Paladins have faced four ranked teams and have scored just two points in their five duals this season. Following this weekend’s action, the Blue Demons return to the Lakeshore Athletic Club for a 7 p.m. dual with Toledo on Feb. 18.
