Feb. 17, 2011
CHICAGO – The No. 64 DePaul men’s tennis team returns to Lincoln Park on Feb. 18 for a dual with Toledo before making the short trip down Interstate 55 for a clash with Illinois State on Sunday. Friday’s match at the Lakeshore Athletic Club is slated to begin at 7 p.m., while Sunday’s dual in Bloomington begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Racquet Club. The Blue Demons (7-2), who have won five of their last six matches, moved up to No. 64 in this week’s Campbell’s/ITA Team rankings. On Feb. 8, DePaul entered the rankings at No. 66 after wins over then-No. 63 Iowa and No. 73 Princeton and moved up two spots after splitting a pair of road matches last week. DePaul is led by its seniors Bartosz Jozwiak and Ben Hartman. Jozwiak leads the team with a 14-7 single mark and has won five of its last six matches. The senior has seen action in the number two, three, four, five and six positions while he is 4-1 in the fourth spot. Hartman has also won five of his last six matches and boasts a 12-7 mark. The senior is 4-0 this season in the fifth position while he is 3-2 in matches played in the sixth spot. In doubles action, Jozwiak has teamed up with newcomer Sven Kasper for an impressive 14-7 mark. Playing in the top position, the pair is 4-4 in duals this season while they got a signature win over the No. 33 pair in the country earlier this season at the ITA Midwest Regional. Returning to their home courts, the Blue Demons and Rockets (7-5) are meeting for the seventh time in eight seasons. DePaul holds a 4-2 series advantage in those duals while the Blue Demons have won the last four meetings, including last season’s 5-2 win over the Rockets in Lincoln Park. This season, DePaul is 4-0 in duals played at the Lakeshore Athletic Club, while the Blue Demons also picked up a home win over Princeton at the Glenbrook Racquet Club. On Sunday, DePaul and Illinois State (4-1) are meeting for the fourth time since 2006. The Blue Demons hold a 3-1 series lead while the Redbirds won the 2010 dual in Chicago last season. Following this weekend, the Blue Demons return to the corner of Lakewood and Fullerton and host Western Michigan on Feb. 26.
