Blue Demons Top Toledo at Lakeshore on Friday

CHICAGO -- The DePaul men's tennis team got back on track with a 5-2 win over Toledo on Friday at the Lakeshore Athletic Club.  The Blue Demons snaped Toledo's three-match winning streak and improve to 5-6 on the young season.

After Toledo (6-5) registered the first win of the day on the number two doubles court, the Blue Demons battled in the first and third matches and secured the doubles point.  With the critical doubles point on the line, Vanja Grgec and Mathias Hambach topped Bryant Dudzik and Terence Weigan 8-6 in the number three position to even the doubles score.

With all eyes on the number one match Ben Hartman and Bartosz Jozwiak picked up their third consecutive win and clinched the doubles point with an impressive 8-5 win over Nutthavit Likicumchorn and Aleksandar Elezovic.

Heading into singles action, DePaul's Douglas Perrin and Vanja Grgec continued to play well as Grgec was the first to finish and dominated Leonardo Henrique 6-3, 6-2 in the sixth spot.  In the number five match, Perrin followed and gave DePaul a 3-0 lead when he overpowered Dudzik 6-3, 6-2.

Needing just one more singles victory, Matija Palinic bounced back after losing the first set 3-6.  The sophomore refocused and clinched the victory for the Blue Demons as the Palinic won the final two sets 6-3, 6-1.

With the match won, Hambach gave DePaul its final point of the day with a win in the number four position.  Hambach topped Leo Sarria 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10)

The Blue Demons return to action next weekend in Iowa.  DePaul faces Drake on Feb. 27 and No. 55 Iowa on Feb. 28.
