Blue Demons Soar Above Redbirds
CHICAGO The No. 75 DePaul men’s tennis team concludes this weekend’s competition undefeated. Today, at the Lakeshore Athletic Club, the Blue Demon’s shut out Illinois State, 7-0. The squad now improves to a 9-1 record, while the Redbirds ball to 2-5. The No. 41-ranked doubles duo continues to tally wins, as they defeated Skip Span and Filip Milievic, 8-3. The duo improved their record to 9-1. Matija Palinic and Jose Moncada clinched the doubles point with their win over Daniel Tobar and Micah LeMoine, 8-2. In singles action, the Blue Demons went a perfect 6-0 to secure the shut-out team victory. Vanja Grgec was the first to finish, beating Micah LeMoine, 6-1, 6-0. Austin Doerner put DePaul up 3-0 after defeating Milievic, 6-1, 6-0. Bartosz Jozwiak recorded his second clinching match of the weekend after beating Tobar, 6-4, 6-4. Last night, against Western Michigan, Jozwiak came from behind to win the deciding match, and put the Blue Demons ahead, 4-3. Moncada picked up his second win in the No. 1 match, with his straight set win over Timon Reichelt, 6-3, 6-4. Hartman and Palinic both dropped their first set, but battled back to win the final two. The team returns to action next weekend, when they travel to Iowa on Saturday, February 28 to face the Hawkeyes at 11 a.m. (CST) in the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center. Noting the Blue Demons: The squad has opened their dual season with a combined singles record of 41-19 and a combined doubles record of 18-7... the Blue Demons have outscored opponents in team-play, 55-11... Austin Doerner and Ben Hartman received a ranking of No. 41 in the ITA doubles polls on Feb. 19, 2009... head coach Matt Brothers’ career record now stands at 25-11... DePaul's current winning streak at home stands at 16 dating back to the 2005-06 season...Bartosz Jozwiak and Jose Moncada currently lead the team with 15 singles-match wins... while Alasdair Graetz and Moncada have the most doubles-match wins with 11, Doerner and Hartman have the highest winning percentage (.900)...
