Men's Tennis Beats Marquette in C-USA Shootout

FT. WORTH, Texas – The second day of the Conference USA Shootout wasn’t like the first day as the weather was gloomy and the winds were high and the outcome was much better.

On Friday, DePaul dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Charlotte but on Saturday, the Blue Demon men’s tennis team rallied in another 4-3 match and this time beat Marquette.

Marquette came out early winning the doubles point at No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

Robert Kotroczo and Eric Huffman picked up a win at No. 2, drilling the Golden

Eagles, 8-1.

Marquette came out the same in singles winning at the #3 and #4 positions,

moving the score in their favor to 3-0. But Juniors Sam Davidson, Robert

Kotroczo and Mark Henderson came threw for the Blue Demon faithful to make

it 3-3.

It all came down to #6 singles as Sophomore Eric Huffman came from behind to

beat Marquette's Ian Kawas 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, to solidify the 4-3 win for DePaul.

"Amazing that is all I can say," said DePaul Coach Luke Taylor. "To lose a

heartbreaker the day before 4-3 to Charlotte and then to lose the

doubles point today and then come back is outstanding. I am proud of these boys we wanted it and they stepped up and fought.”
