Blue Demons Fall to No. 58 Iowa
IOWA CITY, IOWA Despite wins from No. 41 doubles team Austin Doerner and Ben Hartman, and a singles victory out of Jose Moncada, the DePaul men’s tennis squad fell to No. 58 Iowa, 6-1. The Blue Demons fall to 9-2, while the Hawkeyes improve to 6-1. Moncada and Matija Palinic finished their No. 3 doubles match with a score of 8-3 in favor of Will Vasos and Tommy McGeorge of Iowa. Hartman and Doerner finished next, with their seventh-straight win. They defeated No. 31-ranked Hawkeye tandem, Christian Bierich and Nikita Zotov, 8-4. In the third and deciding match in the race for the doubles point, Bartosz Jozwiak and Alasdair Graetz were narrowly beat by Reinoud Haal and Greg Holm, 8-6. Moncada picked up the lone singles win for DePaul, taking a straight-set match from Zotov, 7-5, 6-2, in the No. 2 singles slot. The senior picked up his sixteenth season-victory, and remains undefeated in the No. 2 match. After taking the first set, 7-6, Hartman dropped the second set to Haal, 6-0. Hartman eventually bowed out in their set, 6-2. Jozwiak traded two close sets with Vasos, losing the first 7-5, but rallying to win the second set, 7-6. In the third set super tiebreaker, the pair were still evenly matched, but the Hawkeye walked away with the win 16-14.
