Kasper Named BIG EAST Tennis Player of the Week

CHICAGO – DePaul sophomore Sven Kasper was named the BIG EAST Conference’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week it was announced on Wednesday. Kasper helped the Blue Demons to a 5-2 win over Western Michigan on Feb. 26. The victory was DePaul’s seventh on its home court while the team improves to 10-2 on the season and moved to No. 52 in this week’s Campbell’s/ITA Team rankings. In singles action, Kasper defeated Michael Calderone 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The win halted a two-match singles skid for the sophomore and was key to the Blue Demons victory over the Broncos. Kasper is 7-5 in the top singles position and improves to 12-11 on the season. In doubles action, Kasper teamed with Bartosz Jozwiak to edge WMU’s Pablo Olivarez and Casey Cullen 9-8 (5) in the second doubles spot. The Blue Demon duo moved to 16-8 in doubles play this season. Kasper is the first men’s tennis player to earn BIG EAST Player of the Week honors while he is the first Blue Demon since Jevgenij Cariov to be named the Conference’s Player of the Week. Cariov was named the Conference USA Player of the Week on Jan. 15, 2002. The Blue Demons return to action at the HEB Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas, March 4-5.
