Men's Tennis Shuts Out Buffalo
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s tennis team recorded a 7-0 shutout over Buffalo on Friday at Lakeshore Athletic Club. The Blue Demons swept doubles action before taking all six singles matches from the Bulls. DePaul opened the night with a trio of dominant wins in doubles play. Freshmen Ben Hartman and Adam Williams posted an 8-0 shutout over Aelxis Lluis and Ezra Bernstein at No. 3 before junior Jose Moncada and sophomore Vanja Grgec rolled past Octavian Stane and Jean Carlos Wynter, 8-1, in the No. 2 match. Junior Austin Doerner and sophomore Alasdair Graetz completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Nikesh Singh Panthlia and Marcelo Mazzetto in the top match. The Blue Demons stayed on top of their game in singles competition. Graetz cruised past Wynter, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 5 match, while Hartman followed with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Lluis at No. 4. Moncada clinched DePaul’s victory as he topped Mazzetto, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2. Doerner gave the Blue Demons an extra point when he delivered a three-set victory over Panthlia in the top singles match. The DePaul junior dropped the first set, 4-6, before he rallied back for a 6-2 win in the second frame and a 10-5 decision in the super tiebreaker. Grgec posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Stane at No. 3 before Williams closed the evening with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Bernstein at No. 6. DePaul (9-6, 2-0 BIG EAST) returns to competition on Saturday, March 22 with a doubleheader at Lakeshore Athletic Club.
