No. 50 Blue Demons Drop Two at HEB Team Invite
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas The No. 50 DePaul men’s tennis team dropped a heartbreaking match against South Alabama in the opening round of the HEB Tournament of Champions Team Classic. After going up 3-0, the Blue Demons were unable to capture the fourth point and lost a 4-3 decision. The team continued to struggle against No. 65 Brigham Young. Beginning with singles play, DePaul jumped to a 2-0 lead only to be upset 4-2. Alasdair Graetz and Jose Moncada collected their 12th doubles win of the season after defeating South Alabama’s Marek Srmek and Aaron Krisan, 9-7. Bartosz Jozwiak and Matija Palinic clinched the doubles point with their 8-5 victory over Romain Bocaert and Hanno Bartsch. Ben Hartman and Austin Doerner, the No. 38-nationally ranked doubles pair, did not finish their match. In tournament play, all matches are suspended once the point has been declared. DePaul climbed to a 3-0 lead after singles wins from Doerner and Graetz. However, the Jaguars surged back with four-straight singles-match wins to upset the Blue Demons, 4-3. The team fell to 10-4 after losing to BYU later in the afternoon. Graetz and Doerner picked the only two DePaul points. The Blue Demons look to rebound tomorrow at 9 a.m. (CST) against Western Michigan. DePaul defeated the Broncos earlier this season, 4-3.
