CHICAGO – DePaul men’s tennis standout Matija Palinic was named the BIG EAST Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after winning five matches last week.  Palinic helped the Blue Demons to seventh place finish at the HEB Team Tournament while DePaul faced a pair of ranked teams last week.

Playing in the No. 5 position, Palinic has won his last five singles matches while he has four straight doubles victories.

On the week, Palinic went 3-0 in singles with wins over opponents from No. 61 South Alabama, No. 64 Oklahoma State and Western Michigan.  All three of Palinic’s singles victories came in straight-sets –  as the senior dropped just 17 total games in singles on the week.   The Croatian native boasts a 12-10 singles mark and is 8-2 in the No. 5 spot.

In doubles, Palinic teamed with Adam Reinhart for a pair of victories.  The Blue Demon tandem has won their last four matches and is a perfect 4-0 in the No. 3 doubles position.

Palinic is the second DePaul player to be named the league’s Player of the Week this season.  The Blue Demon senior follows Filip Dzanko, who earned the honor on Feb. 21.

DePaul returns to Lakeshore Sport and Fitness for a dual with Brown on March 10.  The first serve of Saturday’s dual is set for 6 p.m.  This season the Blue Demons are 6-0 on their home courts.
