Western Michigan Edges DePaul, 4-3
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas The DePaul men’s tennis team continued to struggle at the HEB Tournament of Champions Tennis Classic. The Blue Demons lost their final match of the weekend, 3-4, against Western Michigan. Overall, they fall to 10-5, while the Broncos improved to 10-8. Bartosz Jozwiak and Vanja Grgec picked up the only doubles win today, defeating Casey Cullen and Pablo Olivarez, 8-5. Austin Doerner and Ben Hartman, as well as Alasdair Graetz and Jose Moncada lost by a narrow two-point margin. Doerner evened to score after defeating Kazuya Komada, 6-4, 6-0, but the Broncos tallied two more wins to surge ahead, 3-1. Both Moncada and Graetz traded sets with Kevin Hayward and Michael Calderon, respectively, before bowing out in the third. For the third time this season, Jozwiak faced Olivarez on the singles court. After losing the first two meetings, Jozwiak tallied a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1 win. Grgec scored the third point with his win over Zeyad Montasser, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-4. The Blue Demons return to action on March 14, when they welcome Toledo and Lewis to the Lakeshore Athletic Club. Seniors Jose Moncada and Austin Doerner will be honored this final home event of the 2009 season.
