Men's Tennis Earns Two Home Victories
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s tennis team won both sides of a home doubleheader on Saturday at Lakeshore Athletic Club. The Blue Demons opened the day with a 5-2 victory over Northern Illinois before they posted a 7-0 shutout over Wright State in the nightcap. DePaul took the doubles point from NIU with a pair of victories. Junior Austin Doerner and sophomore Alasdair Graetz edged Adam Ford and Brian Livingston, 8-5, in the top match, while freshman Ben Hartman and sophomore Adam Williams earned an 8-5 victory over Matt Hansen and Diego Zegarra-Ballon in the No. 3 match. Singles competition saw the Blue Demons take the dual victory from the Huskies with four wins. Sophomore Vanja Grgec posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ford in the No. 3 match and Graetz earned a three-set, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, victory over Jimmy Chu at No. 4. Hartman defeated Hansen, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 5 match and freshman Bartosz Jozwiak picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Javier Bernabe at No. 6 singles. DePaul controlled the nightcap from top to bottom as the Blue Demons defeated the Raiders in every doubles and singles match. Doerner and Graetz improved their No. 1 doubles record to 5-1 with an 8-4 win over Nick Camilleri and Landon Neuman, while Williams and Hartman picked up their fifth doubles victory of the spring with an 8-1 rout over Pip Rehg and Brad Krick at No. 3. The No. 3 singles match saw Jose Moncada notch his 11th dual-season singles victory when he knocked off Rehg, 6-1, 6-1. Hartman improved to 16-1 on the spring with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jan Alafriz at No. 5 singles. DePaul (11-6, 2-0 BIG EAST) heads west next week for a trio of duals in California. The Blue Demons face Pacific on Thursday before they challenge UC-Davis on Friday. DePaul closes the trip with a Saturday dual at Fresno State.
